Disney's Pop Century Resort Review: Rooms, Prices and Check-in After the 2026 Refresh

★★★Facts checked: October 2026

Disney's Pop Century Resort is a 3-star value resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, themed around American pop culture from the 1950s to the 1990s. It is known for oversized icons, three decade-themed pools, and a Skyliner station that links the resort to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. A refurbishment of all guest rooms, the lobby and Petals Pool Bar finished in early 2026.

The catch is that the hotel has no suites, no table-service restaurant and no theme park within walking distance. Rates are not covered here, since they change by date and room category. This review looks at the rooms, the pools, the charges that do and do not apply, check-in and check-out times, and how you get to the parks and the airport.

Location and distances

Pop Century sits inside Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, and no theme park is within walking distance. You reach the parks by Skyliner gondola or by Disney bus, so plan on transport rather than a stroll.

The Skyliner station, shared with Art of Animation, is the resort's main advantage. It runs to EPCOT International Gateway and Hollywood Studios, with a transfer at Caribbean Beach. Hollywood Studios and EPCOT are the nearest parks by Skyliner. No source gives a drive time, so check a map for your own route if you are driving.

Universal Orlando is not served by any Disney transport, which only covers Walt Disney World destinations.

Check-in and check-out times

Check-in at Pop Century is 3:00 pm and check-out is 11:00 am. The 3:00 pm time comes from a third-party page, and Disney's 2026 package terms say check-in is generally 3 to 4 pm, so treat it as a guide.

Check-in

You can check in online in My Disney Experience and go straight to your room, with your phone or MagicBand+ as the key. The refurbished lobby uses check-in kiosks instead of a traditional desk, according to Disney Tourist Blog in November 2025. Bell Services holds your luggage if the room is not ready.

No paid early check-in is published. Early room access depends on availability, so ask rather than count on it. The minimum age to check in is 18.

Check-out and late check-out

You can check out in the My Disney Experience app, or it happens automatically at 11:00 am. Bell Services stores your luggage after check-out.

Late check-out is available on request at the front desk, either the night before or the morning of. It is not guaranteed, and a planDisney panelist in October 2024 mentioned no fee.

The 2026 refurbishment: what changed

The year-long refurbishment is finished: all guest rooms, the lobby and Petals Pool Bar were refreshed between March 2025 and early 2026.

Rooms got new flooring, curtains and upholstery. The lobby gained Fab Five murals and more seating, and, according to Disney Tourist Blog, it now uses check-in kiosks. Everything POP also has new seating and a new coffee shop.

If you are reading older Pop Century reviews, anything written before early 2026 may describe rooms and public areas that no longer look the same. The layout is unchanged: one standard room type of about 260 sq ft, sold in 4 location categories.

Skyliner closure in January 2027

The Disney Skyliner is closed for refurbishment from January 24 to 30, 2027, and free buses replace it.

This matters because the Skyliner is Pop Century's direct link to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. During the closure, those parks are served by the free buses, which normally cover only Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. Buses start 45 minutes before park opening, so build in extra time on those days.

If you are travelling in the last week of January 2027, check the Skyliner status on Disney's transportation page before you plan park days.

Holiday decor

The Walt Disney World holiday season runs November 13, 2026 to January 6, 2027. Resort decor usually goes up from early November, according to Disney Tourist Blog. The 2026 Pop Century dates are not published. In 2024, the decor included a retro-ornament tree outside Everything POP and wreaths with elf figures in the lobby.

  • Ask about early check-in and late check-out at the front desk, as neither is guaranteed

Frequently asked questions

Does Pop Century have a resort fee?

No. There is no mandatory resort fee at Disney-operated resorts, and overnight self-parking is free for resort guests.

Can you walk to a theme park from Pop Century?

No. No theme park is within walking distance. You use the free Skyliner to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, or free buses to the other parks.

Is there a shuttle from Orlando airport to Pop Century?

Not from Disney, since Magical Express ended in 2022. Mears Connect, a third-party service, costs $34.60 round trip per adult and $28.12 per child after a 3% fuel surcharge added April 1, 2026.

Is there a shuttle from Pop Century to Universal Orlando?

No. Disney transportation serves only Walt Disney World destinations.

Does Pop Century have a refrigerator or kitchen?

No kitchen. Rooms have a beverage cooler, which is not a full fridge and not for perishables, and a single-cup coffee maker, per a third-party room guide.

Can you see fireworks from Pop Century?

Only partly. A planDisney answer from January 2019 says distant, high bursts of EPCOT and Hollywood Studios fireworks can be seen from upper floors of the 50s and 60s buildings near Hourglass Lake and from Generation Gap Bridge, without music.

Are there laundry facilities at Pop Century?

Yes, not in the rooms but in 3 guest laundry rooms near the pools. According to a third-party page, a cycle costs $3.50 and detergent $1.

Bottom line

Pop Century is worth it for families and groups who want Disney transport, free parking and no resort fee, and who will spend their days in the parks. Look elsewhere if you need a suite, a kitchen, table-service dining or a room for more than 4 people, or if you travel with a dog.
